Our very own Tom Chambers will be joining a host of celebrities to raise money for cancer research by walking 228 kilometres along the Great Wall of China.
The Great Walk to China is a sponsored charity event which will raise fund for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia.
Tom will be joining celebrities including Dannii Minogue, Sir Cliff Richard and Toyah Willcox on 'Team Great Britain'.
The team, along with Olivia Newton-John, teams from China, the USA and Canada and cancer survivors will set off on April 7th, with each member taking on one or more of the six stages of the gruelling 21-day challenge.
Each will be sponsored for every step they take, with the money raised going towards funding both complementary therapies to help patients battling cancer and clinical research to find cures and prevention.
As anyone who watches Tom in Holby City knows, his character Sam is currently battling cancer. Tom, like many others, has had personal experience of how cancer can touch lives. Tom's Mother recovered from Breast Cancer, and Tom wants to take advantage of his fame to help raise awareness of such an important cause.
When asked why people should sponsor him, Tom points out that none of us know when we might need the kind of support that this event is raising money for.
We at TCO know that many of you reading may well have been touched in some way by cancer, and we urge everyone to consider sponsoring the walkers for as little or as much as you can spare.
